A hot ember bounces off the grate or grease drips past the catch pan, leaving a dark ring on the deck boards. We build this wide ground mat with a heavy fiberglass base and a smooth silicone top face. It sits quiet beneath the cookbox, ready for whatever falls.

Coated silicone surface

Hot sauce and melted fat pool on top rather than sinking through the weave. A bucket of warm water, a dash of soap, and a rag take the slick right off before you roll it away.

Woven fiberglass core

The interior cloth handles hot sparks and falling cinders without curling at the corners. It lays flat against rough cedar boards, poured concrete, or patio slate without catching on the edges.

Grip on wet boards

The bottom face sits down without sliding when you roll the cooker into place. Foot traffic around the side shelves stays steady, so the mat stays centered under the drippings all evening.

Rolled garage storage

When autumn winds roll in and the cooker goes cold, the mat rolls up small around its own width. Slip it onto an overhead garage shelf or stand it in the shed corner until spring.
